Eight Tape Recorders and a Pair of Pants presents
a scary short film about life, death and ooze
A young boy is dealing with the growing erratic and hostile behavior of his dementia afflicted grandmother. With her health rapidly deteriorating, he will bear witness to a cryptic family ritual involving a black ooze seeping tree stump and uncover a secret that stretches far back into the past.
Shield your eyes, kid. Death is a mystery no one solves.

Colin Earner - Writer/Director/Editor
Colin is a Richmond, VA based filmmaker with a passion for telling stories that probably should get him locked up somewhere for a very long time. Along with writing and directing, Colin also DPs music videos and short films as well as works as an AC in the local Richmond film industry. His short films have played in New York, Oregon, LA and Richmond. Rings is his largest project to date. He couldn’t have made it without the incredible help and talent of his amazing collaborators and crew. When he’s not making his own fantasies a reality, he is trying to help his friends make their films. Also probably sleeping somewhere. Lazy bastard.

Kyle Brady - Producer
Kyle is a local filmmaker in Richmond, VA. A graduate of the VCUarts Cinema program, she enjoys the opportunity to collaborate and flex new muscles and skills on any project she jumps on. Her knowledge of all things production is only outmatched by her knowledge of television shows. Seriously, she’s got a spreadsheet with thousands of logged hours for every show she’s ever seen. Want to see it? I’ll send you the link. She’s a hands-on producer. Whether it’s writing out emails, building a creepy old picture frame out of loose wood you find the night before the shoot or sharing a cigarette. Kyle is the whole enchilada.

Will Rummel - Director of Photography
Once told by a professor that “history will judge him” for missing focus on an early take, Will has yet to turn on a subordinate with similar cold fury. Chalk it up to emotional clarity or a simple delight in his work, he’s instead often very close to being overwhelmed with emotion by the camaraderie of his peers. A cinematographer and editor by trade, Will has spent his life looking at the world with a camera on standby, ready to capture small moments throughout the day. He is eager to earn the moniker of Gaffer in the gardening sense of the word, and relishes every opportunity to make art with his friends.
-
Yashia Burrell - Production Designer
Another Richmond native, Yashia is a natural captain in any role you give her and Colin’s placed her in every role under the sun. When she’s not working on other people’s sets, she’s working away on incredible screenplay after incredible screenplay. Seriously, read some. Your jealousy will boil over. On Rings, she masterfully directed a whole team of talented craftspeople and artisans to make a unified and altogether unique folk horror aesthetic with the tiniest of budgets. Give her a twenty and she’ll make it a forty. She’s now in LA, kicking ass on a whole other coast as a screenwriter.

Justice Der - Composer
Justice Der is a guitarist and producer based out of Toronto. He began building a following on YouTube in 2017, posting jazz and ambient inspired covers of artists including Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar and James Blake. As a solo artist Justice has released 2 EPs of original music and several cover projects, as well as a number of collaborative tracks with artists Rachel Bobbitt and Marley Pitch, including a collaborative album with Rachel Bobbitt in 2019. Justice also produced Rachel Bobbitt’s 2021 EP And It’s the Same.
